La residencia, de 250 m2, es para una mujer soltera de edad mediana y su madre. El sitio es rocoso, escarpado y muy arbolado con pendiente hacia el norte y vistas panorámicas hacia el valle y las montañas de enfrente. Una pared de bloques de hormigón ancla la casa al suelo a la vez que media entre lo natural y lo artificial. Todos los espacios se organizan en relación a esa pared. Los materiales principales son: abeto para la estructura, madera laminada, estaño para la cubierta y los bloques termoaislantes de hormigón.
A 2300 sq. ft. residence for a middle-aged single woman and her elderly mother. The program called for a living/dining area, a kitchen, four bedrooms, two and a half baths, and a study. The site for this project is rocky, steep and thickly wooded with northern exposure, and panoramic views to the valley below and the mountains beyond. A 20´high x 100´long concrete block wall anchors the building to its site providing a formal datum between the manmade habitat and the wilderness beyond; all programmed spaces open on to and along the wall. Materials include fir timber structure, marine grade mahogany plywood, tin roofing and insulated concrete block.
