“The house is in conversation with you and that conversation reveals itself over time, and that it gives a level of depth to it; the house is smart, engaging and somewhat provoking.”
Marc Boutin vividly recalls the first time that he showed his new client, Ian Maddock, what would be the 360 degree view from the rooftop of his future home.
The two had clambered up to the top of a “ridiculously high” extension ladder, laid it against the original bungalow that stood on the site, faced gale winds and took in the views that in three years’ time would grace the home that now sits solidly atop Calgary’s Scotsman Hill. “The height-averse Marc looked like he was doing the Titanic thing holding onto that ladder,” recalls Ian. “You could see the magnificent views of storms coming from the west and the wonderful industrial lands to the east,” chimes Boutin.
